Steve Grimmett hit the salubrious salons of The Sando in Sydney on Saturday, coming off a very special first visit to Australia via Canberra and Wollongong – hell down under alright.
A select audience of knowledgeable, hairy, tattoo’d, black-shirted head-banging enthusiasts witnessed a great performance by the legendary lead singer of Grim Reaper, Onslaught, Lionsheart and GrimmStine.
In Australia, the tour was put together by the fantastic metal guitarist Stu Marshall {Empires of Eden} .. and what a terrific show it was.
Stu’s own band Paindivision was the backing unit for all of Steve’s Hell Down Under Tour with the backline featuring some amazing LaBoga kit and special LOUD STUFF from Pro Guitar & Sound. Wow – the joint was thumpin’, pumpin’ and jumpin’.
Grimmett, fortified by half a pig’s ribcage and chips from the Amazon Cafe next door, has lost none of his energy. This was a full-on performance. We loved it. It was loud, it was furious, it was outrageously theatrical with terrific stage lights, great sound, driving energy and the smokebomb kruppswerks … see 30 or so more photos of Steve Grimmett’s Hell Down Under Tour here.
There are also some candid shots taken before the show for the special Meet & Greet & Signing put on by the very personable Steve Grimmett, whose laconic, English charm masks the steel fist of that fantastic, spiraling voice so much admired across the world by metal enthusos.
Great support for the night was provided by Dragonsclaw, Taberah and Darker Half.
